In the midst of the government shutdown we have seen an increase in data breaches and website hacking. Critical federal cyber analysts have been furloughed so no one is able to analyze the plethora of intrusion data collected by federal cyber systems.
Just this morning Fox News reported a massive data leak at the Oklahoma Securities Commission. Although a data leak is not a breach per se, it does represent the criticality of security mindfulness. In this case, sensitive data was publicly accessible on an online server without requiring any passwords.
In light of minimal staffing at federal cyber agencies and the increase of curious and criminal cyber activity I hope all of you understand the necessity to take action to protect your assets. Can you afford a breach that adversely impacts your business or your customers?
